For somebody new to the system I would also recommend something like the Transit App, which you can put your whole trip into ahead of time and will give you literal step by step directions to and within stations, including voice prompts if you want. The line visuals at the bottom are not using Mapbox. Rather they're using the open source Kepler.gl [0], (a user-friendly wrapping of the deck.gl library [1]).
