Possible disadvantages of TinyJPG

  • File Size Limit
The free version has a file size limit for uploads (5 MB per image for free users), which may not be sufficient for high-resolution images.
  • Limited Formats
TinyJPG currently supports only JPG and PNG formats, which may not be suitable for users needing compression for other file types.
  • Compression Control
Users have limited control over the compression settings, which may not meet specific quality requirements for all professional projects.
  • Premium Subscription
Advanced features and higher limits require a paid subscription, which might not be justified for occasional users.
  • Dependence on Internet
TinyJPG is an online tool, so users need an internet connection to access its services, which may not be ideal for all scenarios.

  • Preservation of Metadata
The API provides the option to preserve or strip metadata from images, offering flexibility according to privacy and SEO considerations.

Possible disadvantages of ImageOptim API

  • Cost
The ImageOptim API is a paid service, which may not be cost-effective for smaller projects or those with limited budgets.
  • Dependency on External Service
Using an external API means that your service is dependent on the uptime and reliability of ImageOptim, which could be a risk if their service experiences downtime.
  • Limited Control Over Process
While the API offers some customization, users might have limited control compared to local optimization tools where they can deeply tweak optimizations and algorithms.
  • Privacy Concerns
Sending images to an external service for processing could raise privacy concerns, especially with sensitive or proprietary images that might require local processing for security reasons.

Extract the scanned image and resize to make it a bit smaller, then compress the images on tinyjpg.com, merge them all into one pdf file using smallpdf, finally compress the pdf file again on the same website. Source: about 2 years ago
  • Improving image performance on the web.
I'd say that a proper OR recommended approach towards optimizing images for the web is to manually compress them with compression tools like TinyJPG or Squoosh before uploading them to your favorite image CDN. Why? you'd ask me. - Source: dev.to / about 2 years ago
  • Work in progress, my Pathfinder 2e homebrew world map. Feedback appreciated
Oh and for the file size: compressing is usually better than resizing. And your image is a PNG which is much bigger in size than a JPG and you barely notice the difference. You can use https://tinyjpg.com/ or any proper image editor for good compression or even in Wonderdraft, you can (for sharing on Reddit) better export it as a JPG and at 80% or so.
