Much like humans - some AIs aren't very good. Unlike checkers or Connect 4 chess isn't "solved": there's no existing AI or strategies that can win 100% of the time. Chess is just much too complicated for that, as the number of available moves becomes truly ridiculous as a game goes on. In addition to what other people are saying re: comedians and practicing, I've also found regularly doing a few rounds of Dual N-Back (or anything else that has me juggle multiple memories while working with logic, like leetcode or logic puzzles) almost magically bumps me up a tier on the banter-o-meter too.
