The reason which made me curious in the first place was that I could not compile a document successfully which, however, was possible on my Windows machine where I have installed texlive using the online installer of tug.org. For a conversion to an e-book, it is possible to take a trip through (La)TeX and TeX4ht, or use Pandoc, which is pretty good at converting from Markdown to HTML (better than between, say, HTML and LaTeX). Another option is to download an app onto your iPhone that allows for file transfers using iTunes, like Documents by Readdle.
