Telepresence Reviews

mirrord as an alternative to Telepresence
However, the technical approach at the base of mirrord is very different from that of Telepresence, which translates into significant differences in usability, compatibility, and performance. What Telepresence does is install an operator in your cluster, then connect you to the cluster via VPN (either your entire development machine or a containerized subset). On the other...

  • Approaches in Cloud Development Ergonomics
This is where shared environment tools like Telepresence and CodeZero can help. They assume you're only working on one or two microservices anyway, and running them locally is not an issue. These tools let you connect your local service to the staging environment, replacing the service currently running in the cluster, without deployment. The code you're working on runs locally, and its dependencies run in the... - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago

Local development is an entirely different story on its own. There many tools just for this (tilt.dev, garden.io, telepresence.io, okteto.com). Source: almost 3 years ago

  • The Icelandic Saga Database
Me too. In fact Garden (dev tooling for the Kubernetes)[0] is a Berlin start-up with three Icelandic founders. And if I'm not mistaken, two of us worked briefly with @halldorel (above commenter) at an earlier Icelandic start-up. It's a small world (if you're Icelandic). • Local development set up for microservices with Kubernetes - Skaffold
There are dedicated tools just for that. Apart from skaffold check also tilt.dev, garden.io, devspace.sh, okteto.com. Source: 11 months ago
  • is anyone using garden.io for Kubernetes development?
Would appreciate any insights on garden.io. Thanks. Source: about 1 year ago
  • Founders looking for feedback on a DevOps idea
Alternatives:Tools like Okteto, Releasehub, Docker Compose, Tilt offer the ability to spin up environments easily, but don't allow you to mix and match connections between different environments during development/testing, so the above problems would appear to persist. Telepresence and Garden.io seem to be closer to this, but aren't complete drop-in solutions. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Deciding between Telepresence vs Garden.io
I just used garden.io for a small personal project that was more about figuring out how to use garden. I started with the examples and used the Terraform GKE example. Source: almost 2 years ago
