Apache James might be a bit more popular than Synchronet BBS. We know about 4 links to it since March 2021 and only 3 links to Synchronet BBS. We are tracking product recommendations and mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you identify which product is more popular and what people think of it.
Seems like you got the easiest ways already, but perhaps the most fun way is through the Synchronet BBS system, which will run on Windows, Linux, or *BSD (not sure if this includes OS X...probably, with effort). It's primary purpose of course is to host an ANSI BBS, but it includes services for a web interface to the message base, as well as NNTP, gopher, ftp...heck, even POP/SMTP if you really wanna go nuts. ... - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
Check https://synchro.net. You can access thru BBS's (telnet/SSH) or NNTP too, and you'll have night convos at FIDOnet and DOVEnet, both tech and non tech. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 years ago
Rec.radio.shortwave Sometimes I interact over NNTP on https://synchro.net (they have a web/BBS interface too). As the pace is much slower, I can comment once or twice a week and everything is still good. Finally, Gopher and Gemini sites. A really slow pace, no ads, no likes, no bullshit. - Source: Hacker News / almost 3 years ago
James (https://james.apache.org) has good support too. Only the filter part of the API lacks some features. - Source: Hacker News / 3 months ago
While looking for a good solution to extract the HTML and text parts, I came across the following code hidden in the Apache James mail server: It has a 160-line class called MessageContentExtractor to extract the content as well as a 50-line inner static class called MessageContent, which is used to hold the data. - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
Https://www.leafnode.org/ is decent if you just need a small instance. https://james.apache.org/ for more entreprisey stuff. And the old but reliable https://www.eyrie.org/~eagle/software/inn/. - Source: Hacker News / almost 2 years ago
Check out Apache James. My unfinished dockerized instance: https://github.com/alexanderfefelov/docker-backpack/tree/main/james. Source: almost 3 years ago
