Blender is amazing for rigging, but for everything else you described I'd say you should consider svgator.com. Not that popular from what I've seen on here, and the free plan is limited, but as far as ease of using goes it's hard to beat. It's browser-based, so there's nothing to install/download. If you are open to svg based gifs, it is so much easier. SVG is a far different image technology than bitmap. There are no issues with the ghosted edges and it will be crisp at any size. Because it is actually code and not pixels, you can even change a lot of it after it is made.
