  • How to determine what is valid for Standard when looking at precon Commander deck?
You can use sites like Scryfall to look up what cards are legal in standard or look up what sets are legal a card you want to use lines up having appeared in one of those sets your good to go. What's in Standard will also give you a broad view of what sets are in standard so you know what to look for. Source: 5 months ago
  • how does this work?, if i attack with life linkers at the same time does it count as one instance of life gain? also if one has first strike is that the first life gain?
For more info you can look up the gatherer (or if you want an actually good site with the same info scryfall). Source: 5 months ago
  • Are there any cards that can key off of the opponent using Scry?
Short story, no. I used scryfall to check for historic legal cards with. Source: 9 months ago
  • Turning a Random Card into an EDH Deck (Call to Glory - Pt. 2)
Welcome to another edition of a random card being turned into an EDH Deck! Every Friday I create a budget (<$100) EDH Deck based entirely around a random card that I pull from scryfall.com (or that is suggested by someone else, either way it’s still random to me). I would love it if anyone has any suggestions for future random cards/decks or just wants to share their own experiences with any cards or decks... Source: 9 months ago
  • Is there any way to make a copy of Helm Of The Host?
You really ought to look into scryfall and in particular, the advanced search function. That, and the official rules. Really helps with most everything when you're trying to learn/play the game. Source: 10 months ago

  • State of Izzet phoenix
I'd suggest going to any deck browsing site (like https://www.mtggoldfish.com/metagame/pioneer/full#paper) and glancing at the top decks and seeing which one interests you. It's okay to post and ask questions about decks if you're not sure how one works (I personally struggled understanding how legacy control decks can seem to run 0 win conditions but also have no issues winning games for instance). When you find... Source: about 1 year ago

Props for your resourcefulness, but you could just use Cockatrice, or XMage. Source: about 1 year ago

  • I sometimes miss the fun of low-cost Magic, but have realized the hobby is really expensive. Are there any low-cost ways to play?
My favorite is Cockatrice even though you sound like a mostly in person seeking fellow. It is a web application that is like a card game simulator, it plays magic and can auto update to show you card images, doesn't cost a dime and theoretically could play other games like Android Netrunner if you really wanted to, downside is it sometimes changes domains if the authorities try and shut it down, but the last one...
