Have people used SCM Manager [1]? I recently found it on the Mercurial self-hosting page [2], and while it seems pretty good to me (at least for a single person use-case), the fact that I never hear of it (as much as Gogs or Gitea) makes me think that it may have some non-obvious issues with it. The Git CLI is terrifying and awful. It's far too easy to clobber your own work -- and that of others -- when the whole point of it was to prevent that. While you still need to really deeply understand several git concepts to use it, GitKraken[0] is the best GUI tool I've used in daily practice.
