You can create, name, and set variables anywhere in rpg maker. You'll have to program the system what the variables do yourself. I know I'ts possible I did a custom battle system in rpgmaker way back, without using the inbuilt battle system. I'd suggest visiting rpgmaker.net or revelant reddit/discords for more infos. Unfortunately, according to the Web Archive, around 2012 the developer pulled a disappearing act and wiped all traces of the game on rpgmaker.net and the official website from the Internets. (While I'll always respect the decision of creators to do this kind of thing, as the erstwhile developer of a janky-but-could-be-worse RM2k3 game released around the same time that still wallows in the depths of rm.net to this... -the link moves you to a mediafire download, where the ONLY available and downloadable file is for windows (even when checking of felixthejudge's old Tumblr page, and 'rpgmaker.net', it still won't work). Source: almost 2 years ago
I'm being slightly vague here to prevent any misunderstandings, but back in the day in rpg communities including what used to be bigger sites like rpgmaker.net among others, there was a program that would generate a license to use to either stall a trial or make the software think its registered. I will heed your warning, but I honestly don't think Square Enix cares much about Dragon Quest or FF fan games. I don't think they see them as a threat. I've been working on this since 2012 and have been documenting the development on rpgmaker.net as well. Source: about 2 years ago
My Abandonware (myabandonware.com) is a site that hosts... abandonware. Old PC games that have it's copyright either unenforceable or neglected and unprotected. This often happens when a company goes under, or a partial merger happens or something. A great example is Zoo Tycoon (the original game), or Lemmings. The only way to play these games "legitimately" is to buy a disc from a reseller, sometimes amazon. Source: almost 2 years ago
The main game I am wanting to get running is Lego chess.... Or Aladin chess if Lego won't work. But on myabandonware.com it is listed as an ios. When I tried to use PC game wiki to get lego chess to work, it still did nothing. The computer would think, the install / exit program box would appear, but clicking it would do nothing. I tried Dosbox already, and maybe I did it wrong but It also did nothing... Source: almost 2 years ago
When it comes to DOS games, your best bet is to run them in a DOS emulator such as DOSBox, or DOSBox-X. With any luck your game might be on myabandonware.com, which sometimes has DOSBox embedded on the website itself - allowing you to play DOS games right from your web browser (not mobile). It doesn't just look pretty fun, it is pretty fun, and it's on myabandonware.com :). Source: about 2 years ago
Myabandonware.com is a top favourite for abandonware DOS titles. There are plenty of games there you've gotta pay for through Steam, GOG or Zoom Platform (which has all the Duke Nukem stuff officially) but there are plenty of free older games on there too, that haven't been re-released in any form for some time.
