Roon (Music Player) Reviews

The 7 Best Windows Music Players for Hi-Res Audio
While most examples of hi-res music player software focus on sound quality alone, Roon focuses on something else. The developers say that something has been lost in the transition to digital music. To bring back the feeling of engagement you’d get from poring over liner notes, Roon aims to present a searchable “magazine” of your music.

Roon (Music Player) mentions (47)

  • What do you guys use to play music on the go?
I also use Roon, which is a little complicated to describe here. Basically I have my own home server with music on, and then I can use the Roon ARC app to access it on the go, similar to above (and is similar to PlexAmp mentioned elsewhere here). Source: 10 months ago

  • Poor schemas, poor cataloguing: why music tagging sucks
Roon handles metadata and relationships between entities the least bad of anything I’ve tried. It’ll do things like link covers and live performances of the same song together, or let you group multiple issues of the same album and switch between them. It’s not cheap, and it takes some effort to fix some bad source data, but I’ve found it very rewarding and get a ton of enjoyment exploring my library now.... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
  • iOS 16.3 Code Reveals Apple Continues to Work on Classical Music App
Take a look at Roon. It's pricing and mobile limitations are disqualifications for me, but it's tagging is simply phenomenal. Source: over 1 year ago

  • Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024
It's amazing how incompetent they seem in this area. They even shut down another podcast app before your journey began, called Google listen. Luckily, although you might want Google's proprietary music player to access their subscription content, there's absolutely no reason to use a Google podcast app. I am a fan of Antennapod[0], which is available on F-Droid. • Google Podcasts to shut down in 2024
Why anyone would use a proprietary podcasting app is beyond me! (Particularly one from Google with basically had a 100% chance of getting canceled....) https://antennapod.org/ is incredible! 10/10, highly recommend! - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
