Pydio Cells (https://pydio.com/) is a great open-source selfhosted file sync and sharing alternative to Nextcloud. It supports, and strongly recommends the use of an S3 compatible storage backend. It actually works better with S3 storage than a normal file system storage. I'm sure there are many ways, but I used https://sabre.io/baikal/ to get a CalDAV and CardDAV server on cheap (shared, bog standard) web hosting, and then pointed Thunderbird to it.
