Tuta Mail is the secure email provider with automatic encryption built in. It focuses on security, privacy and open source. Tuta Mail is known as the best ProtonMail alternative as it is the largest encrypted email service in the European Union. German data protection laws which are even better than [Swiss privacy laws]({https://tuta.com/blog/swiss-privacy-is-an-illusion}) make Tuta a great contender in the field of secure communications.

Check out psono too for self hosting (https://psono.com/) It's on my todo to do this myself but I haven't had time yet. It looks a lot more interesting to me than self hosted bitwarden/vaultwarden though, especially if you have needs to fill like encrypted file storage that are slightly above and beyond bitwarden's design. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago

In terms of keeping it opensource, not only will that allow others to see the code etc, you'll get many people contributing towards your code to help fix bugs/issues/feature requests which could be a huge help. There are many opensource projects where the front end and website are open source and then 2 version of the backend exist, a public 'free' version and a private 'paid' version which may be distributed as... We're on the process of migrating from LastPass to self-hosted Psono[0]. I've not yet used Psono enough to say anything except that it seems better than LastPass, but that's not a hard goal to reach. Most require you to sign up for a enterprise subscription or purchase lifetime licenses worth 4000+$. Source: over 2 years ago
A look at tuta.com and tutanota.com demonstrates that Tuta is using an Amazon Start of Authority (SOA) DNS record and 4 corresponding Amazon Name Server (NS) DNS records. Source: 5 months ago

Weeks ago when tutanota became tuta I had same issues...wouldnt allow me log in. I clicked links provided by tuta to "migrate" data...never worked. Few days later...i was able to log in at https://mail.tutanota.com/login and continued until today, when my credentials were not "valid" anymore so tried at tuta.com and same thing.
