I use Postmark (https://postmarkapp.com/) for transactional emails OnlineOrNot has an email-only auth option, and it was the only provider I found that could actually deliver emails in a second or so (rather than minutes). - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
Postmark - 100 emails/month free, unlimited DMARC weekly digests. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
When building apps/websites I often need to send messages to the business owner / admin. Sendgrid, Mailgun, or Postmark are great solutions if you have a need for transactional emails that are technical. I still prefer using Customer.io for this need. If you’re unsure what transactional emails are, check out this guide. Source: 8 months ago

My organization, a non-profit, uses Gsuite for email, so I'm thinking sending via that server might be all around a better idea. I see WP Mail SMTP by WPForms – The Most Popular SMTP and Email Log Plugin and some others in the plugin repository that look like they might do what I'm looking for. Source: almost 2 years ago
I also want to recommend the WP Mail SMTP plugin. It makes setting up email really easy, including swapping out email services. I'm not sure how you'd integrate it into a custom app, but I'm sure it can be done. Source: almost 2 years ago
