I have the same issue. Sort of. Once I start checking any social media, I go down a rabbit hole of hours spent on various platforms. The one thing that has helped me is a timer, as odd as it sounds. I try to only do social media on my laptop and not my phone. That helps. And then on my laptop I use the free desktop app Pomy. If I were to make something like this, I would display it in a webapp with a simple eye tracking system (like this one, for example) so that, when it doesn't detect anyone looking towards the screen, it automatically changes the background. Ankimote developer here. I was thinking about writing something to control Anki using this gaze tracking library, but I came to realize it would be slower than finger movements since you'd need to keep your gaze in an area for a second or two to avoid false positives.
