  • Another one in the wilderness
This was in earliest days of Internet, and I used probably AOL's search engine trying to find free MP3s to finally land on Project Playlist, so I wrote them a heartfelt letter about my jail experience over "Sliver" when the bar played "Rape Me" instead, and pointed out playlist.com was available and easier to type. • What's the strangest way you discovered a band/artist?
There was an old website called playlist.com. I had just discovered it and was searching for the Tracy Bonham song "Mother Mother", which I loved but hadn't heard in years. I couldn't find the song, but what did pop up was a song called "Dirty Town" by the band Mother Mother. I clicked it out of curiosity and holy shit. It turned out to be the first song on their album "Touch Up", which to this day I regard as a... Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Looking for an indie rock song, think the artist was something like Wilson Project and title of the song had something to do with trains
Unfortunately, this was back in the days when I would listen to stuff on websites like playlist.com that I think people would edit titles or download pirated music, so it's never very accurate. Source: over 2 years ago

  • Ask HN: Flac/MP3 listeners: How do you store/play your music?
I'm not sure if this would fit all your needs aside from running on Linux but Ampache [1][2] has been around for a very long time and has the ability to mesh with other instances. It started as a small project run by some students at OSU and evolved over time. [1] - https://ampache.org/ [2] - https://github.com/ampache/ampache. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago

  • What's yout preferred selfhosted music streaming suite?
Ampache. I've been using it for a while and it's great. I'd suggest using it with Ample, as Ample's UI is better. It supports the Subsonic API, so subsonic clients will work with it. It also supports DAAP and uPnP, for other clients. It has it's own API as well, but not many apps use that. Source: over 1 year ago
