The problem is that they tend not to be very good in distinguishing shapes on a photo. But there is something that can be done to improve on that. All that is needed is image editing software that supports converting an image to greyscale and can edit the brightness and contrast of an image. Take a semi-decent photo of yourself and (either you or someone you know who knows how) run it through something like Midjourney or another Generative AI platform and have them make some slight changes. I did a quick google search and found befunky.com - never used them before so I'm not endorsing them or anything. But if you use their photo editor, go into the effects tab and then go to cinematic, the first option under cinematic is 'film grain'. Thats what you are looking for. Source: almost 2 years ago

I actually use online editing websites such as befunky.com because it's more practical and requires less technical work but if you're serious, you can learn some tricks on Adobe Photoshop which would be the more professional approach.
