DisplayBuddy lets you control external displays connected to your Mac right from your menu bar - No need to touch those clunky monitor buttons!
It has been tested on a wide range of monitors from manufacturers such as Dell, Acer, LG, Samsung, BenQ & PRISM, and works with most displays manufactured in the last 5 years. DisplayBuddy can also control the volume for monitors with built-in speakers, turn off your monitors, sync brightness across displays and even switch display inputs to HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C and more.
If you use a monitor with your Mac, this app is life changing. I started using DisplayBuddy and I can never go back to monitor buttons now!

Did I memorise the syntax? Of course not. That’s what devtools is for. But gradients are a big part of our visual brand, so OKLCH for the win! Really makes a big quality difference. Shadows are generally nice for adding some visual depth, but again, depends on your visual direction. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
Not a very usable color picker. The this color picker is limited to a slice of the HSV colorspace with a V of 1. Also, the outputs are not copyable. The HSL/HSV color space also isn’t great for generating color combinations due to the deformation of lightness. A much better colorspace is the OKLCH colorspace which is has uniform lightness. The downside is that the colorspace is not perfectly cylindrical, so some... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
This article mentions a notable limitation of the HSL colour model: > Perceived brightness is not at all uniform at equal starting points, it depends on the hue, as well as the saturation. …but it doesn't mention an (under-discussed) solution available: using a better colour model. OKLCH uses similarly understandable coordinates, "chroma" being roughly the same concept as "saturation", but is designed to avoid... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
Thanks to @evilmartians there's a fantastic little color picker I like to use that shows you both the new color and the fallback color right next to each other! You should totally check the tool out and see what new colors are available. I was more surprised than Dwight when Michael returned after not getting the job at corporate (or rather, after Michel "removed himself from consideration")! - Source: dev.to / 9 months ago
> Unfortunately, this color cannot be represented with CSS colors (rgb(999,999,999) doesn’t work) I think browsers now support other color space like this one https://oklch.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 12 months ago
Adding my must haves: - DisplayBuddy: a more modern alternative to BetterDisplay to control monitors (https://displaybuddy.app) - Magnet: the simplest and best window manager (https://magnet.crowdcafe.com) - DaisyDisk: fantastic way to visualise your disk usage and free up space (https://daisydiskapp.com). - Source: Hacker News / 6 months ago
Why not just use https://displaybuddy.app on a modern monitor and not strain your eyes. - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago

All DDC related features in BetterDisplay and MonitorControl is completely free without limitation or no nag screens of any kind. Lunar has manual control available for free (with a daily adjustment limit). DisplayBuddy was also mentioned here - it is a rather limited app and asks a bunch of money for stuff that is available for free and in a better implemented form in basically every other app (which is weird as... DisplayBuddy (Paid) Very limited options, tbh I don't recommend it compared to Lunar or BetterDisplay. Source: over 1 year ago
