I haven't seen a mention of the Oil Shell (https://oilshell.org) project's OSH/YSH yet and I'm quite surprised. Oils goal is that OSH is just a new Bash implementation (although not bug-for-bug) but with an upgrade-path to the more modern YSH for real programming with type safety etc, but still as a shell language. (author here) Yeah you just repeated what https://oilshell.org/ is You'd want to be able to go $NEWSH my-bash-script.sh and it should just work. $NEWSH my-newsh-script.nsh should also work, obviously.

    osh my-bash-script.sh  # works, it's the most bash-compatible shell by a mile.

In our fork for https://oilshell.org/ , and it made a lot more sense to people. It's funny how "sticky" syntax is -- because two contributors ALSO read * as "pointer" ! Friends, I'm not saying that tools like zx are not good. I do like to write some scripts using js/ts. I believe pythoners prefer https://xon.sh/ . Perl is also attractive and interesting. Fish is friendly. However, I still believe that posix-shell has its own advantages. The balance among size, code length, and expressiveness.
