Sorry, but _what exactly_ «it seems to do» from your point of view? My «second brain» now is almost 300Mb of text, pictures, sound files, PDF and other stuff. As I already mentioned, it contains tables, mathematical formulae, sheet music, cross-references, code samples, UML diagrams and graphs in Graphviz format. The reason which made me curious in the first place was that I could not compile a document successfully which, however, was possible on my Windows machine where I have installed texlive using the online installer of tug.org. After a painful and long and painful investigation I finally installed texlive using the installer from tug.org and et-voila: it worked. Source: about 2 years ago

For a conversion to an e-book, it is possible to take a trip through (La)TeX and TeX4ht, or use Pandoc, which is pretty good at converting from Markdown to HTML (better than between, say, HTML and LaTeX).
