Being frustrated by the replacement of vb6 paradigm with .Net philosophy, total different from the orher, I looked over 20 years a replacement. For a while, worked with brilliant PowerBasic combined with FireFly, but the lack of 64 bit caused by early and regretable loss of Bob , finished the game. Now, FireFly is replaced by WinFbe,like a phoenix bird again and as language is prefered FreeBasic, a good mature 32/64 bit compiler, strong and with same syntax origin like basic used by Microsoft in good times. The combination is awsome, differences are only estetical in comparation with old VB. Winfbe becomes a redutable tool, with online context suggestions, well done and it deserves a look , as an intersting alternative

Historically there was HyperCard, then cross-platform Metacard, which eventually became Runtime Revolution, which apparently is now renamed Livecode! There are several options. LiveCode [1] (formerly open source, now closed) can open HyperCard stacks and is compatible with round 85% of the native syntax - so some things will work, and some bits will need rewriting. I am pretty sure they offer a free trial so you can check to see how well it does at converting your stack before committing. If you are on a Mac, the command-line stackimport tool [2] will convert... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
LiveCode [1] [2] still exists and seems to be actively maintained! Runtime Revolution was the spiritual successor to SuperCard, and made building color, cross-platform stack-like apps totally possible. The language is still very close to HyperTalk, so it has a much shallower learning curve than many C-style languages. 1. https://livecode.com. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
