  • PixieFail: Nine Vulnerabilities UEFI Implementations
    > is there any motherboards out there for AMD64/X86_64 that comes without UEFI/BIOS? Your computer needs UEFI/BIOS for hardware initialization. There is a open implementation tho, see https://libreboot.org/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Just about every Windows/Linux device vulnerable to new LogoFAIL firmware attack
UEFI is just another M$ abomination 8-( In this specific vulnerability, I wonder how possible it is to modify that boot logo remotely? Wouldn't exploiting this vuln require local access? As in all things, open firmware is the way to go: https://www.linuxboot.org/ https://libreboot.org/ https://www.coreboot.org/users.html. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
  • GNU Boot sent a cease and desist to Libreboot
There was the spat of drama in 2016, and the view of "always in the middle of drama" is IMO confirmation bias since then. Today's drama is part of larger culture wars going on in the community: - The pro-RMS vs anti-RMS thing going on since RMS's removal from the FSF in 2019, much amplified by his reinstatement in 2021 (the latter of which lead to most of the FSF staff walking out). Is RMS still fit to lead the... - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
  • Returning my ReMarkable 2
I don't own a cell phone and my computer is entirely free, its BIOS replaced with libreboot running Trisquel, a 100% free-software operating system. Others can do this, too, if they really want the freedom. It is not hard, nor does it require expertise. It only requires the will to do it. Source: 11 months ago
  • Why libreboot?
I see a lot of posts on here about people excited to libreboot their Thinkpad. I went over to libreboot.org itself and I can't understand what the benefit is to doing this? Source: 11 months ago

  • Need help with installing Ubuntu as a dual boot
From what I understand, the boot EFI partition has become corrupted. In this case The easiest thing to do Is to download ventoy and install it in a flash drive Then put in this ISO, boot it and do the repair Https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/ If that doesn't work then I should rebuild the efi partition and then restore the bootloader. • I'm trying to boot boot-repair from a usb stick, and it's stuck after: [Begin: Running /scripts/nfs-premount ... done.]. (Please it's been two weeks and I'm battling my pc)
I flashed the boot repair ISO (64 bit) onto a usb drive using Balena Etcher. It was a normal morning, around 3 am, I had just turned off my pc (Ubuntu 22.04) normally, then the next day, it gave me this error: End kernel panic - not syncing: fatal exception in interrupt. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Does it make any sense to keep recovery partitions after formatting?
If you altered the MBR but haven't deleted the recovery partition, you can make it bootable again by installing GRUB and os-prober (for example with the Boot-Repair disk). Depending on the type of recovery partition, it either comes up as "Windows Recovery Environment" or just "Windows 7", so don't confuse it with a standard Windows 7 installation. • how do I enter windows 10 when stuck in Linux grub while booting? (please read the description)
If you have a system you can download to, you might look at https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/. Source: about 2 years ago
  • trouble installing deepin
I had a similar problem when I tried to install neon on a btrfs formatted drive. I'm not familiar with uefi though. You could try the boot repair disc https://sourceforge.net/projects/boot-repair-cd/ . The problem is that some packages normally get deleted after bootloader is installed, which won't happen here. You might need to remove them manually. That says my solution is not perfect and shouldn't be your first... Source: about 2 years ago
