I prefer Kodi: https://kodi.tv/ It is free and open sourced and won't use DRM or phone home on you. Nothing comes out on DVD anymore, everything is Video Streaming paid per month or year. - Source: Hacker News / 7 days ago

Honestly? I use https://beets.io/ to organise all my FLAC on my NAS. I expose the /Music directory over NFC. I use https://kodi.tv/ to stream music to my amp. I manually pick the album I want to listen to. Kodi also has a fairly reasonable web UI. Keep it simple. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
Do yourself a favor, get a shitty PC or raspberry pi, plug it into your TV, and install Kodi on it. Source: 12 months ago
Kodi sounds like what you're describing. You connect it to a tv and it can play media from your network, or use add-ons for internet streaming. I'm not sure if it includes the most popular streaming services, but I suppose you could use a browser for those. Source: 12 months ago
Use https://freetubeapp.io for desktop OSes I think there are other apps for mobile OSes (no idea I don't watch YT on mobile. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
I just use a free desktop client called Freetube instead ( https://freetubeapp.io ). Don't even have to login or create a profile, and there's a ton of UI customization options built in. Voila -- no more Google shenanigans. - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
You can use https://freetubeapp.io/ to access Youtube in privacy. Source: 5 months ago
I use FreeTube also. This is what I am using on my Mac. They have the app for Windows, MacOSx64, and various Linux OSs. No app for iOSs but maybe if we support him he may want to go further. On my Android tablet and phone I am using Grayjay, which also is another alternative. Source: 5 months ago
[FreeTube](https://freetubeapp.io/) \- Unlike the next 3, this will require a download, however it has a UI that looks closest to Youtube, downloads, 1080p and more! And is available on Linux as well. Source: 6 months ago
