This blog is running on Hugo. It had previously been running on Jekyll. Both these SSGs ship with the ability to create excerpts from your markdown content in 1 line or thereabouts. - Source: dev.to / about 2 months ago

In that case, what we need would be closer to a static site generator (like Gatsby, Hugo, Jekyll). But, static site generators aren't the best choice either because we would have to build a lot of documentation-focused functionality (like versioning, search, and code blocks) ourselves. - Source: dev.to / 3 months ago
In future, if you want to move from Jekyll to something else, you just have to worry about that `_posts` and `_assets` folder. They may have different naming convention but you can just config-managed it or change it to your choice. This is why I suggested owning that two yourself. Mastodon is a microblogging service, so not meant for large bodies of text. This is why the text entry box is small, the columns are somewhat narrow (especially in deck mode) etc. Platforms like https://writefreely.org/ , which are designed to be for blogging and long-form writing, are the place to write this. I'm not sure what you've tried to install, but WriteFreely is Open Source and thus free of charge. There is commercial hosting of it, eg. write.as, but with those you don't have to worry about installing it. Source: about 1 year ago
Instead of joining a Mastodon server, have you considered joining a write.freely server? Write.freely is a decentralized platform for writers that integrates the ActivityPub protocol, so anyone in the Fediverse can interact with your posts. This may be more well suited for your needs, although if you still want to join a Mastodon server there are many good answers in this thread. Source: about 1 year ago
