I used a dizzying array of tools to pull this off. Labor-sheds for Regional Analysis by Chris Fowler, Penn State Univ., was the source of the city-regions map data and central cities used for calculation. JPL Horizons provided the sunrise data. The client requested a muted green as the primary color and so I derived that using a dropper tool to extract a hexadecimal code.
