15 Grammarly Alternatives to Fix Your Writing Mistakes in 2021 ( Spelling, Punctuation, and More)

112 Best Chrome Extensions You Should Try (2021 List)
ProWritingAid is an alternative extension to Grammarly. The reason why I mentioned it here is due to its high rating. I guess fiction or nonfiction writers might enjoy using this extension. I do not want to compare it to Grammarly in general, but Grammarly fails to deliver story writers. Since I am a technical writer, I prefer Grammarly over ProWritingAid.
2021’s Top 10 Best Turnitin Alternatives and Similar Services
On the other hand, for teachers, as they might not need proofreading services, we suggest ProWritingAid plagiarism services which are more affordable compared to Turnitin. In a nutshell, we recommend Grammarly and ProWritingAid as the best Turnitin Alternatives to replace its functionalities to some extent.

  • I finished the first draft of my first novel. It's garbage.
Congratulations. Writing is rewriting. Even if you decide the story isn't worth saving. At least go through the revision process to use the story as a toool to learn how to edit. Run it through spellcheck and grammar check. Let Grammerly have a go at it. Check the readability with - Source: Reddit / about 11 hours ago
  • Would you use a proofreading service?
I use the paid version of Grammarly & I use Hemmingway. The combination of the two of them will have you covered. - Source: Reddit / 3 days ago
  • Do you recommend using Editing tools?
I second this! It's an awesome tool. You don't want to write in Hemingway Editor, but you can copy/paste to and from. It's free on the browser, and $20 or so for a download. It keeps you mindful of sentences that can be difficult to read, adverb usage, passive voice, and words that have simpler alternatives. - Source: Reddit / 4 days ago

  • I could use some help wording my game's mechanics.
The best suggestion I can make is to pass your writing through the Hemingway app. It will help you strengthen the core of all of your writing. You will need to ignore some of it - it obviously will not have any context for the mechanical terms of your rules - but the rest will be clean, concise, and clear. - Source: Reddit / 7 days ago

ProWritingAid mentions (14)

  • Writing App Recommendations?
I use google docs and a mixture of editors. ProWritingAid is my favorite and has a free version (limited to 500 words at a time). I also use a few free editors on occasion: Editsaurus, Typely and Hemingway Editor. Editors are good for finding errors, but also just breaking your text down for you to help you find any weird patterns, overused words, etc. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • People need to proofread before they post.
It's like Grammarly. Frankly, I prefer ProWritingAid. It's a bit more robust than Grammarly in my experience, and just as free. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • How can I improve?
You can also use ProWritingAid free (which limits the word count of what you can put in and review). I prefer it to Grammarly, personally, and use it before and after sharing fics with my beta reader. They also have some blog posts that aren't bad. Hemingway Editor and Editsaurus have also been useful to me. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
  • Editing
I used the free version for several years. But I eventually upgraded to the paid version because the free version only lets you edit 500 words to a time and I write epic length Fantasy that averages 115k to 175k words per volume and it got tedious editing them 500 words to a time. But otherwise there is very little difference between the free and paid versions. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
  • What are some suggested requirements for becoming a writer?
Try tools like ProWritingAid and see how they affect your writing. Again, an interesting point of view. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
