This remineds me of Haxe[1]. I like Wax better because of the Common-Lisp-like syntax. [1]: https://haxe.org. - Source: Hacker News / 14 days ago
I thought this was a three.js demo but it's actually built with a language called haxe [1]. I've never heard of this language before and looks really cool. Makes me want to play with it! [1] https://haxe.org/. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
The Haxe programming language (https://haxe.org/). It's insane how unpopular this is compared to its value. "Haxe can build cross-platform applications targeting JavaScript, C++, C#, Java, JVM, Python, Lua, PHP, Flash, and allows access to each platform's native capabilities. Haxe has its own VMs (HashLink and NekoVM) but can also run in interpreted mode." It's mostly popular in game dev circles, and is used by:... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
For those interested in cross platform game development, don't forget https://haxe.org/! The usefulness / popularity ratio is very high on this one :). - Source: Hacker News / 7 months ago
I really enjoyed programming in AS3, and https://haxe.org/ was really helpful at the time to make development easier. Source: 12 months ago
This is a good place to mention https://nuitka.net/ which aims to compile python programs into standalone binaries. - Source: Hacker News / 19 days ago
For Python, you could make a proper deployment binary using Nuitka (in standalone mode – avoid onefile mode for this). I'm not pretending it's as easy as building a Go executable: you may have to do some manual hacking for more unusual unusual packages, and I don't think you can cross compile. I think a key element you're getting at is that Go executables have very few dependencies on OS packages, but with Python... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
There is already an AOT compiler for Python: Nuitka[0]. But I don't think it's much faster. And then there is mypyc[1] which uses mypy's static type annotations but is only slightly faster. And various other compilers like Numba and Cython that work with specialized dialects of Python to achieve better results, but then it's not quite Python anymore. Nuitka deals pretty well with those in general: https://nuitka.net/. - Source: Hacker News / 9 months ago
Have a look at Nuitka, which is a "real" Python compiler into C. It uses CPython in its backend and should be completely compatible to "regular" Python. The compiled code can, but does not have to improve performance. It's probably worth looking into. Source: about 1 year ago
