  • Ask HN: How to Make News Aggregation Work in 2024?
When google did this long ago: https://news.google.com/ I knew the new industry was going to collapse. What more do you need from a new aggregator? Journalism was doomed since though. I had tried https://ground.news/ but never stuck with it. I like the idea but it fails at dimension. There is no left vs center vs right in Canada. Politics in Canada and Europe is 3 dimensional at least with wormholes in our... - Source: Hacker News / 8 days ago
  • Ask HN: Is there a website with only short summaries of the most important news?
Https://news.google.com/ ? It has briefs, read it and close the tab. It’s that simple. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
  • Looking for a way to add local news on a new tab
If you like the Microsoft one, you can pin www.msn.com and for google its news.google.com. Source: 5 months ago
  • Is there a News category that will filter me latest news uploaded on YT?
What I want to achieve is something like news.google.com but on YouTube, where I can get latest news about business for example, and then pick the topic (eg. Today are TSM stocks in trend, and I want to get all videos from today or yesterday about that topic from a News relevant channels.). Source: 6 months ago
  • Google to remove news links in Canada in response to online news law
If what you were saying were true, i.e. That Canadian news will still be indexed on Google and will only disappear on news.google.com - then why are members of the Liberal government accusing big tech of planning to block Canadian news links? Are you saying that those government officials are spreading misinformation? Source: 10 months ago

  • There are no new social networks
    > Where is the public open chats of cyber space? It used to be every tech-savvy person had their own PhpBB instance and built small communities with that. All that has largely migrated to Discord, Reddit, Facebook Groups, and to a lesser extent: Lemmy & Mastodon. There's also quite niche and bespoke communities like Subreply[0], Tildes[1], and Raddle[2] (Built with Postmill). I prefer the Reddit style Karma system... - Source: Hacker News / 10 months ago

Ironically, the anarchist site that the devs used to pour scorn on, Raddle, is still going just fine. Source: 10 months ago
  • Any "distressed people" have a feeling of nowhere to go?
I would check out https://raddle.me and https://beehaw.org. Both seem to be positive and cozy spaces. They might not have all the relevant communities but it's a good start. Source: 10 months ago

  • Anyone have recommendations for possible Reddit Alternatives for after July 1st?
I've seen some other alternatives such as raddle where independent users are trying to recreate the Reddit experience with a new platform (yet it doesn't seem to use the same Karma System, make of that what you will) but I'm still curious to see where everyone is going if large parts of Reddit disappear after July 1st...
