I'm in a similar spot, also with an Auth0 based setup that feels clunky at times. I recently became aware of https://frontegg.com and, while I haven't evaluated it, it looks like they've designed it to solve these pain points. Looks like you can actually embed some of their pages directly in your UI so you don't have to build that yourself. (And just to be clear, I have no association with Frontegg). I have always just loaded my 4k HDR content onto an external hard drive and played directly off that. If you're using an HDMI and have the HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color setting on, give PotPlayer with the madVR plug-in a try. Source: about 1 year ago

I use K-Lite Codec Pack (https://codecguide.com/download_kl.htm). It includes Media Player Classic Home Cinema (https://github.com/clsid2/mpc-hc) and that's my preferred playback application for local files. I would recommend full or mega as that includes MadVR (https://madvr.com/) which I feel in most cases is the best renderer available. Source: about 1 year ago
