Download a hotkey manager and you can setup hotkeys to do various things. It's much easier to keep track of them than trying to do it with shortcut properties. I use Executor.. Source: about 1 year ago

For the record, I find the teaching IDE BlueJ very easy to use and try things out in JavaFX. It is very light to use as it isn't designed as a normal IDE but you can simply write a JavaFX class and right-click to run as it. Source: almost 3 years ago
