I usually have my drive accessible on a windows box and use https://eraser.heidi.ie/ to fill up all the unused space with pseudorandom data at 1 pass. I call that good for my usage. Source: 12 months ago

Use Eraser https://eraser.heidi.ie it overwrites the data; you can set how many times you want it to do. Depending a how big the drive is it could take a long time. Source: 12 months ago

Alternatively, you could run https://corz.org/windows/software/checksum/ on your music collection, and use the hash file to check that your backups are the same as the source. Source: about 1 year ago

The next thing you want to look into is file integrity. Files can get corrupted & if you update your backup with a corrupted version of the file the backup isn't much help. If you're hoping to retain data for an extended period of time look into file hashing.
