I do the same as you describe. I have an external docking station and a few internal flash drives. Periodically I'll turn the external on, copy files over to it, run a sync, then shut it down again so those drives are turned off most of the time and will hopefully last longer. I pool them together with DrivePool to make them easier to work with. - Source: Reddit / 3 months ago
I store my media on a (windows 10) Stablebit Drivepool with x2 file duplication. (shucked HDDs are a bargain). - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
Live data on a local pool based on drivepool (https://stablebit.com/). - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
Not for nothing, but I went down this JBOD road for awhile and StableBit DrivePool is an amazing tool that can consolidate those volumes. It's non-destructive, the drives all stay NTFS, you don't have to format anything to add them to the pool, you just drag the files into the pool folder and then turn off drive letters for the individual drives. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
There's apps out there like Drivepool that present all your drives as a single drive and letter and would probably be a good fit for what you're trying to do. Unraid is another option but I don't actually have any experience with it personally. - Source: Reddit / about 2 months ago
