  • Klingen vs. sich anhören
Anyway, dict.cc says sich anhören is nur unpersönlich. So, I guess I can't use it to describe people? Like, Sie hört sich seltsam an would be incorrect? Source: 7 months ago
  • Excitement / I'm excited about...
So, I looked up excitement on dict.cc. It gave me...die Aufregung, die Begeisterung, die Spannung, die Erregung...which of these words would you all use for the general concept of "excitement?". Source: 7 months ago
  • [German Slovak and Hungarian> English] Austro Hungarian Military Pack
In Scandinavian (Swedish for example), verb loanwords end in '-era', while in the very similar German language, verb loanwords end in '-ieren' (eg, das Auto zu parkieren). But you see, until a spelling reform in approx. 1907, the spelling was '-iren'. LEO doesn't have 'assentieren', but dict.cc does. However, these two Websites I named are really wordlists, not dictionaries. Source: 11 months ago
  • is there an app or a website or something with practice options to increase my vocab?
You can use the vocab trainer on dict.cc. Source: almost 1 year ago
  • What do you use your Carrier for?
I thought this word would also exist in English, maybe with a little difference at best. My translator (dict.cc) recommends autarkic, autarkical (both with 'k', surprisingly) and autarchic. But my online spellchecker here underlines all of them with a red line. Source: about 1 year ago

  • Are CAT tools secure? Newbie question here, please help!
Alternatively, you can try OmegaT which is free and runs locally, but it's not as user-friendly as other CAT tools and lacks many of the bells and whistles: http://omegat.org/. Source: 11 months ago
  • Any advice for an amateur regards tools available for free, please?
OmegaT is a free CAT tool that runs on all operating systems. It uses a unique interface which does not follow industry standards, but some translators prefer it, so it's worth giving it a look. It also includes a built-in interface to Google Translate so you can use that from within the program. Source: over 1 year ago
  • What apps would you like to see ported to Qt/KDE?
My only desires are unreasonable for a first project. A GUI for the translate toolkit tools, OmegaT in Qt instead of its ugly UI, Manuskript in C++ or QML, or even just maintaining it properly (it crashes way too much for me to write anything). Source: about 2 years ago
  • Getting started as a Japanese Translator?!
There are usually a lot of repeated sentences in formal documents so memory bank-based translation tools really help to translate faster (you're being paid by translated page usually, so it's in your best interest to do it fast). You can check OmegaT: https://omegat.org/ which is free. Paid software is very similar but more convenient. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Using CAT tools on mac? Investing in a separate computer for translation work??
OmegaT is the only professional CAT on the market that also grants you full freedom to use (GPL licence). Https://omegat.org. Source: over 2 years ago
