I'm pretty new to photography. I understand a lot of the basics (ex-wife shot as a professional hobbyist for a few years) but never really paid much attention to her editing workflow. It sounds like you might want non-destructive editing. Look at something like darktable.org or Lightroom. You can edit your RAW files in multiple different ways, i.e., effectively keeping multiple copies of edited RAW files around. Source: almost 2 years ago

If I had to do this, I'd probably try to find a youtube video of the game that happens to have the character in it, take a screenshot of the character, and then use a tool like https://removal.ai/ to extract the sprite. Source: about 1 year ago
At this point, I will need to process all of the images that have a white background with remove.bg. I processed a few images with both remove.bg and removal.ai. Try making the image darker or scarier using filters. Your headshot could use those white outlines or a brush effect to separate it from the background.
