Analysis of Coinhive

Overall verdict

  • Overall, Coinhive was not considered a good practice due to its potential for misuse, lack of transparency with users, and the ethical concerns it raised regarding consent and resource exploitation. The service was discontinued in 2019, but during its operation, it was generally seen as controversial and problematic within the cybersecurity and web user communities.

Why this product is good

  • Coinhive was a service that allowed website owners to monetize their content by using visitor's CPU power for mining cryptocurrency, specifically Monero. While this might seem like an innovative way to generate revenue without ads, it raised significant ethical and technical concerns. Many websites implemented Coinhive without informing users, leading to unauthorized use of computing resources, increased power consumption, and degraded device performance. Furthermore, it quickly became a tool for malicious actors who inserted the script into compromised websites or distributed it through malware, effectively hijacking users' computing power without consent.

Recommended for

Given its history and the ethical concerns associated with its use, Coinhive—or similar mining scripts—would not be recommended for legitimate websites seeking monetization methods. It's crucial for website owners to seek transparent and ethical monetization strategies, ensuring users are informed and consent to any use of their resources.

Analysis of NiceHash

Overall verdict

  • NiceHash can be a good option for beginners in cryptocurrency mining due to its simplicity and versatility. However, users should be aware of potential downsides such as fluctuating profitability, and should research current market conditions and recent reviews as past security incidents may impact trust levels.

Why this product is good

  • NiceHash is a cryptocurrency platform that offers a marketplace for mining services where users can rent or offer hash power. It is known for its user-friendly interface, ease of use, and a wide variety of supported coins. It allows users to start mining without needing in-depth technical knowledge or significant hardware investments.

Recommended for

Beginners in cryptocurrency mining, users who want to start mining without significant hardware investment, and those who prefer a simple and accessible platform for mining different cryptocurrencies.

So the fear of losing a considerable chunk of bitcoins if the mining company goes down is out of the way. Minergate vs Nicehash? • Scam ?
You have to research ....don't send them any more money. Why would you need to put in $20? You've only lost $10 so keep it at that. You're better off using nicehash.com . They are legit. You don't have to spend anything. Source: over 1 year ago
  • Can someone please explain how exchange rates work?
Buy BTC on Strike (ZERO fees only a market spread) send to Nicehash (only need email for acct- helps opsec). They have coinswap for a .04% fee (coinswap on nicehash has to be used w/ VPN for England/other non US country), change BTC to desired Monero and send to final wallet. Doesnt take as long as it sounds, and saves on fees as nicehash has no deposit or transfer fee. Only the small coinswap one. Source: about 2 years ago
