ChatGPT specifically is at a dumb stage. It works so hard to sound smart that it doesn't care enough to actually be smart. ChatGPT 4 will flat out make stuff up to try to please the audience. But versions 5, 6 and beyond will be much better. The biggest thing people are complaining about is the restrictiveness and its inability to look online. You.com can look online and may be less restrictive (I don't think it's weaker, it just approaches problems with a different angle, so it can't really write long 5 paragraph essays), and you also don't have to log in.
