Brave Search Reviews

  1. Brave Search is way better than other search engines.

In contrast to other "private" search engines (except for Presearch and SearX), it doesn't have trackers, or not nearly as many. This information can be verified by installing uBlock Origin and ClearURLs, which detect 0 and 2 trackers respectively, against for example DuckDuckGo's nearly 10 and 19. Other alternatives are SearX (No trackers AT ALL, still kinda user-friendly) and Presearch (A bit easier to use but a tiny bit worse for privacy, it has 1 more tracking element).

πŸ‘ Pros:    Good search results|Not too many trackers|Not buggy|Easy to use
πŸ‘Ž Cons:    Has 2 tracking url elements

The Next Google
β€œBrave Search can operate as stand-alone, the rest cannot as they rely on Google or Bing. Most search engines are not independent search engines, and while they may provide some value, they are qualitatively different from what Brave Search is doing. Independence is not something directly actionable, but it’s a fundamental property. Independence means that Brave Search would...

  • Microsoft outage affects Bing, Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT internet search
Brave rolled their own completely independent search [1] on what I assume is a relatively limited budget. It seems that regularly grabbing the data would be pretty easy. The harder part would be searching/ordering it in an efficient and meaningful way while avoiding SEO, but that seems more like a fun problem than a difficult one (if not both). • Microsoft outage affects Bing, Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT internet search
Brave Search [1] is 100% independent. There's also Yandex [2] which also works excellently, but is biased towards more Russian language results. The image search is second to none though. [1] - https://search.brave.com/ [2] - https://yandex.com/. - Source: Hacker News / about 8 hours ago
  • Microsoft outage affects Bing, Copilot, DuckDuckGo and ChatGPT internet search
Nice to see https://search.brave.com/, https://entireweb.com and https://mojeek.com are still kicking it. In case anyone needs to know alternatives besides the monopoly that is Google. - Source: Hacker News / about 8 hours ago
  • What Happened to DuckDuckGo?
Https://search.brave.com/ using that as my default search engine on firefox since last year. Quite happy with the quality of results. - Source: Hacker News / about 12 hours ago
  • Ask HN: Do you still use Google search?
Google -> almost never (only by accident if using somebody else's device) Brave Search* [0] -> almost always (if I don't like the results I prepend/append the bang [1] "!s" to switch to Startpage. * with Firefox, not their browser [0] https://search.brave.com/ [1] https://search.brave.com/help/bangs. - Source: Hacker News / 4 days ago

  • How to enhance your Google searches
Aside from that ubo answer, you can install https://iorate.github.io/ublacklist/ and click block. Also supports ddg, bing, and a few others. Source: over 1 year ago
  • TikTok vs Google
They literally end up back to back. You see the exact same title and the exact same "description" text. Without something like https://iorate.github.io/ublacklist I'd go insane. Source: almost 2 years ago
  • Filters to block and remove copycat-websites from DuckDuckGo, Google and other

  • Is it just me or has googles search result quality massively gone down?
I use ublacklist, which does about the same thing (but customizable). I use it for things other than pinterest (spam stackoverflow clones, for example), but it should be able to do pinterest too. Source: over 2 years ago
  • Google no longer producing high quality search results
For the last 6 months or so, I started maintaining bookmarks because of frustration with the search results. Occasionally, a useful search result is found on 2 or 3rd page. I also installed https://iorate.github.io/ublacklist/ recently to block some annoying sites from results such as geeksforgeek polluting C++ related searches. I am uncertain if this is inevitable because I am increasing interested in... - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
