In contrast to other "private" search engines (except for Presearch and SearX), it doesn't have trackers, or not nearly as many. This information can be verified by installing uBlock Origin and ClearURLs, which detect 0 and 2 trackers respectively, against for example DuckDuckGo's nearly 10 and 19. Other alternatives are SearX (No trackers AT ALL, still kinda user-friendly) and Presearch (A bit easier to use but a tiny bit worse for privacy, it has 1 more tracking element).
That's for brave's search product (https://search.brave.com/), not its browser. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
I also left DDG, but have been very satisfied with Brave's search. [1] They also have a nice optional LLM system built in that provides citations to what it says, which is pretty neat. They also have 'goggles' which enable you to apply or create a chosen filter to reorder/refilter results. So e.g. Getting news while blocking partisan sites (or indulging our own partisan preferences), searching only tech blogs,... - Source: Hacker News / about 1 month ago
Currently in search for an alternative search engine to Google or Bing, used DDG for a while but found Brave's Search [1] structured results more useful which is now my default. So far so good but if Brave enshittifies their results may consider having to pay for kagi.com. [1] https://search.brave.com. - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago
I was talking about Brave Search (https://search.brave.com), not Brave browser. Seaech doesn't promote crypto. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Brave rolled their own completely independent search [1] on what I assume is a relatively limited budget. It seems that regularly grabbing the data would be pretty easy. The harder part would be searching/ordering it in an efficient and meaningful way while avoiding SEO, but that seems more like a fun problem than a difficult one (if not both). Brave Search [1] is 100% independent. There's also Yandex [2] which also works excellently, but is biased towards more Russian language results. The image search is second to none though. [1] - https://search.brave.com/ [2] - https://yandex.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Nice to see https://search.brave.com/, https://entireweb.com and https://mojeek.com are still kicking it. In case anyone needs to know alternatives besides the monopoly that is Google. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Https://search.brave.com/ using that as my default search engine on firefox since last year. Quite happy with the quality of results. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Google -> almost never (only by accident if using somebody else's device) Brave Search* [0] -> almost always (if I don't like the results I prepend/append the bang [1] "!s" to switch to Startpage. * with Firefox, not their browser [0] https://search.brave.com/ [1] https://search.brave.com/help/bangs. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
Pretty cool! I use Brave Search (https://search.brave.com) and it too got AI results a few months ago. They're quite helpful! - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago
Best way to protect yourself from that is to use other search engines that do not track you (I really like Brave Search, but if you want Google results without tracking try Startpage). Source: 10 months ago
Instead of DuckDuckGo and Ecosia whose use Bing Search, they should share real alternative like https://kagi.com/ or https://search.brave.com. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
No need to pay for Kagi imo https://search.brave.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
It's been a while. https://search.brave.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
Brave [1] seems to have stepped up their game - at least in the search engine space, and I should get around to trying Kagi [2] as well. [1] https://search.brave.com/ [2] https://kagi.com/. - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
I don't particularly like Techdirt, but DuckDuckGo's penchant for inheriting censorship from Bing [1] (and also doing it on its own [2]) is really disappointing. I think the Tor Browser folks (who obviously disklike censorship) should look into replacing it as the default search engine. The best (free) candidate for now is probably BraveSearch [3]. Is there a way to add site specific exceptions for cookies? I want https://search.brave.com/ to be allowed to use cookies and scripts. Source: about 1 year ago
Https://search.brave.com/ probably my new default search engine. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago
As for search engines, if you're used to Google then Startpage will give you Google results without the tracking. The Brave Search Engine also won't track you and I personally like the result given. Otherwise, DuckDuckGo is usually the "standard" private search suggestion. Source: about 1 year ago
Search.brave.com and duckduckgo.com are MUCH better than Google if you are searching for anything the left might find unsavory. They also won't track you. Privacy and real information. Win-win. Source: about 1 year ago
Go to https://search.brave.com then right click in the librewolf browser search bar and at the bottom of the context menu that pops up click on Add "Brave Search" . Brave search will be added, then you can go into Librewolf settings and add it as default search engine. Source: about 1 year ago
