What I did for my instance (aipub.social) was I took the original logo file from github (https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/tree/main/app/javascript/images) which is "logo-symbol-wordmark.svg" and pasted the SVG url into this online SVG editor, https://boxy-svg.com/ that allowed me to edit the existing one to my liking, in my case I just wanted to change "Mastodon" to "AIpub". Thanks!! Agree 100% re the edges. I've actually tried that and failed to make it look nice. I'm very new to this and I only have Inkscape & BoxySVG, since I use a Chromebook which doesn't work with Illustrator. I'll keep trying, though, as I fully agree with the concept. Source: over 1 year ago

If you're comfortable fiddling with Linux on a Raspberry Pi, you can pretty easily set this up with a ribbon cam and software like Motion. Motion has a lot more options and features than you may need, but it's easy to set up as a barebones LAN-accessible IP camera. Source: 11 months ago
