  • Baserow – Self Hosted Airtable Alternative Launches No-Code Application Builder
Hey, I'm one of the founders of Baserow. We launched the beta of our application builder last week. It allows you to build database-driven websites, web applications, and portals. It's in the same product as our database module, and will work seamlessly together with it. More information can be found in the release blog post linked to this post, and in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjE7gxkPlDs. Even... - Source: Hacker News / about 2 months ago

  • Collecting data from non-technical users.
You could try something like Baserow and your users can enter data directly into the database. Source: 5 months ago
  • I published a 15-year list of product management articles that covers much of my career to date. Saved first in bookmarks, then in Wordpress, then in Airtable, now in Baserow.
Alternatives were Rows and Airtable. Rows tends to be better at calculation, while Airtable tends to be better at storing and sorting data as a database. I was not aware of the open-source alternative called Baserow at the time. I did not choose any office suite like Google Docs or Microsoft 365 because they seemed… too old-fashioned, I guess, while I wanted glitter. ✨. Source: 5 months ago

  • Why I'm skeptical of low-code
    I keep a list of them, I think I originally got most of these from https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=33592990 (not OSS) * OpenBlocks - https://github.com/openblocks-dev/openblocks * Interval - https://interval.com/ * Bracket - https://www.usebracket.com/ * Budibase - https://budibase.com/ * AppSmith - https://www.appsmith.com/ * ToolJet - https://www.tooljet.com/ I only have direct experience with AppSmith. - Source: Hacker News / 4 months ago
  • Pipe Dreams: The life and times of Yahoo Pipes
I skipped to chapter 9 in the article ("Clogged"), and it looked like Pipes failed because it didn't have a large enough team or a well-defined mission. As a result they couldn't offer a super robust product that would lure in enterprise users. "You could not purchase some number of guaranteed-to-work Pipes calls per month" is the quote from the article. The reason I think that interesting is because that's the... - Source: Hacker News / 5 months ago

  • Ask HN: Why did Visual Basic die?
Budibase looks really impressive, basically a GUI frontend builder for postgres and its open source. Haven't actually deployed it, but played with the GUI builder and its nice. There's a few other similar ones out there too like Baserow [2], Appsmith [3] and nocodb [4]. Finally, if you wanted a step up, then I guess supabase [5] would be the next one up but its more like "I just want to write front end and have... - Source: Hacker News / 8 months ago
