Check out Arreya. They charge per unique feed, not per player/sign. I've never used them, but I did a ton of research on Digital Signage companies a few years ago and remembered them as having a unique pricing model. Source: 11 months ago

I highly recommend checking out Elo touchscreens or displays or Sharp displays if you are not needing interactive content. In terms of hardware behind the scenes, we always recommend going the route of Chromebox devices. They have a spendier price tag, but are work the ease of use, easy updates, and just overall user interface they offer, I promise they would be worth it long term in terms of time saving and... Totally agree on the security risk. On the other hand setting up, maintaining and explaining PGP for non-technical users usually leads to not using encryption at all, which is by far less secure than a self-managed PGP gateway on a private mail server setup.
