  Don't use an installed copy of Tomcat. The layout can be different than expected and permission problems can appear at the worst time. For one, it needs to be able to write to that conf directory. What I mean is that if I serve a website on port 8081, for example, and I try to browse to the server's IP and that port, I won't be able to find the website.
