Anecdotally, I gave Dvorak a try and became somewhat proficient, but ultimately reverted back to QWERTY for one reason: keyboard shortcuts! Control-C|V|Z are all transformed into either two-handed shortcuts or right-handed shortcuts. In either case, I can't copy/paste while selecting text with the mouse (since I'm right-handed). I now use Colemak (https://colemak.com/) which doesn't have this issue and I'm quite... - Source: Hacker News / 11 months ago
Like, well, the original US layout, or Colemak. Suddenly, all those "hard-to-type" special characters and shortcuts start to make sense... Source: 12 months ago
I started out using colemak.vim from the https://colemak.com webpage. Rather quickly I found that there were some things that I didn't like about the configuration, so I started modifying it. Eventually I had enough changes that I uploaded a fork of the configuration:. Source: about 1 year ago

Sadly this is not the case for some of the other layouts available. Such as Colemak and Workman. Colemak and Workman are the third and fourth most well-known layouts. There are also many less-known keyboard layouts, such as RSTLNE, Norman, One-handed Dvorak layouts, Minimak, Klausler, Asset, QGMLWY, Capewell, and more. There are also non-English layouts, like neo and azerty, for german and french, respectively.... Source: about 1 year ago
Last year I learned to touch type on the Colemak keyboard layout, which is more efficient than the standard QWERTY layout that was designed to be slow to avoid jamming typewriter keys. I learned Colemak on TypingClub, which I recommend. After spending a while only using Colemak, I somewhat forgot how to use QWERTY. Therefore, in 2022, I relearned how to use the QWERTY layout so that I could still type on other... - Source: dev.to / over 1 year ago
In the video, he promotes the Dvorak keyboard layout, but I'm wondering if he has ever heard of the Colemak layout? I myself switched from Qwerty to Dvorak in early 2015, but then I found out that Colemak was faster and more ergonomic than Dvorak, as well as more similar to Qwerty itself, so I switched from Dvorak to Colemak. My hands would sometimes hurt when typing (not necessarily when coding), so I decided to learn Colemak. My fingers haven't hurt even once since then. The downside is that you WILL lose the ability to write with QWERTY (or whatever layout you currently use) and be annoyed by apps (especially games) that don't let you customize the keyboard hotkeys. Colemak isn't perfect, but it limits pinky finger usage off home row to only Q and Z. It also keeps the ZXCV bundle together, as many programs use ZXCV as universal undo/cut/copy/paste. Source: over 1 year ago

If you use linux or macOS, there's no problem since the layout is installed. If you use windows you can install it from the official site colemak.com . If you are still doubtful, from my experience I can say that when I use other people's devices I can still type with qwerty with an average speed of 35-40wpm by looking at the keys. On the colemak.com page Shai clearly states that if you're good with Dvorak or something like that already you don't actually need to switch to Colemak. I did and I'm intensely happy I did, but I wouldn't call it absolutely necessary by any standard. Source: almost 2 years ago
At my current job, I have a standard Lenovo keyboard and it sucks ass. I fell down the rabbit hole of researching mechanical keyboards, different key layouts like COLEMAK and WORKMAN, I considered hand-building a dactyl manuform keyboard, but right now my thinking is set on the Keyboardio M100. I installed the layout from colemak.com on my work laptop which runs Windows 10. The IT guys were fine with me doing that, and my job doesn't require me to type on anyone else's PC, so I was happily able to forget all my Qwerty muscle memory and concentrate fully on one other layout which was Colemak. If you work somewhere, be sure that the IT department will be willing to support the layout you choose, otherwise... Source: about 2 years ago
