You are right. It would be a nightmare to maintain 50+ versions, store deployments etc manually. But you really don't have to. However, you can set up a build pipeline for yourself which can output builds directly to TestFlight. It can trigger from something like pushed to specific branches on your git repo. This is not super easy to setup but if you are going to be submitting multiple testflight/alpha/beta builds a month it really pays for itself. Codemagic can help in this regard.
