  They host a snapshot of the db on chia.net so you no longer have to do a full sync so you could just grab the v2 and manually update the rest of the way which shouldn't take too long (not sure on the exact time I surmise less than a day or 2- its a long time since I've had to do a resync).   Kind of depends on how much storage you want. If you only wanted around 5-10 hard drives you wouldn't need much. Just download the chia app from chia.net and use madmax to start making plots.
