Booking through recreation.gov - question/suggestions

Recreation.gov Campflare
  1. We're here to help you dream up your next trip, figure out the details, and reserve experiences at over 3,600 facilities and 103,000 individual sites across the country.
I have never done this personally, yet I have heard about people trying this to circumvent the system. In my opinion, this is the exact reason why its hard to find a site in the first place. It is a downward spiral. People are worried about getting a site/don't know when they can make it so they overbook, then this leads to more people doing the same until almost no one can reserve for their ideal dates. I would avoid contributing to the problem. When the campgrounds are released, refresh recreation.gov on as many devices as you can. And make sure to check 10-15 minutes after the initial release as this is how long sites are held in someones carts for. On the bright side, given that people overbook, there are tons of cancelations. So make sure to check closer to your arrival dates. My brother and I work on a free website that lets people know when these cancellations happen (https://campflare.com), so people don't overbook, and roughly 30-40% of campground reservations in popular National Parks get canceled before their initial arrival date. So even if you don't get campground the first round, you will still gave a decent chance of reserving a spot afterwords. Best of luck!
