If you want plug-ins that are a little more professional than the stock plug-ins, Splice is a good option for low price plug-in rentals, but it is $8/mo and is primarily music focused. Freesound helped me out a lot during college with building a sound effect library, but the quality can be hit or miss. If I had to pick one plug-in to recommend, it'd be iZotope RX 10. It is $129 or $16/mo on Splice, but there are free ways of getting it if you look hard enough. It is a noise reduction plug-in. It is valuable because a lot of free sound effects have background noise (for example, sometimes you can hear a loud fan in the room where the effect was recorded), and RX 10 will easily remove all or most background noise.
