Learn finger positioning from typing.com: I did not learn touch typing at school/college. But I had developed a muscle memory of keys from use of a computer since my childhood. I had my own form of hunt and peck typing which required me to look at the keyboard sometimes. Some keys were strong and some I regularly missed. I learned finger positioning from this site and I completed the beginner, intermediate and advanced courses. I did not carry any preconceived notion regarding not using pinky fingers/shift. I used all my 9 fingers and used the opposite shift key to capitalize letters. Eventually my pinky finger became strong enough and I could hit keys correctly.

Compete with others and try to reach personal best on 10fastfingers.com: Now that I had developed my muscle memory and I could type fairly quickly, somewhere around 70-75wpm on a good test, I went to this site and joined competitions. I reached 80-90wpm in this site regularly after practising for months.
