Kentucky Route Zero is another good one. Not much in the way of puzzling that I can remember, but very good story and highly emotional.

Disco Elysium

Disco Elysium, for sure, if you haven't already played it. Ticks all your boxes in its own way. You play a detective solving a murder, but you got so drunk you have no idea who you are or what you've done. You rebuild/reinvent the character through the many narrative choices the game offers you.
