UPDF Highlights
  1. 1
UPDF is a free, unique, productive, and delightful PDF editor for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
    Pricing:
    • Freemium
    • Free Trial
    • $29.99 / Annually (All platforms including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android.)
Since the PDF Expert 3 for Mac also adopted a subscription-based model, I am considering alternatives. UPDF offers almost all of the PDF Expert features for free. They also have a separate PDF converter for the Mac with affordable perpetual licence and OCR capabilities. IOS/IPADOS versions of UPDF are also free with the option of a cheap perpetual licence for the scanning ability. This seems to be the best deal currently for a full-fledged PDF editor. I have nothing against subscription models if they are reasonable. However, $80 a year for PDF Expert is just extortion. I use PDF Expert in combination with Highlights app, which has the various abilities of exporting highlights and notes. I will replace it with Readwise Reader as soon as it goes out of beta. However, I will still need some sort of PDF editor for occasional edits and signatures. UPDF seems like an excellent choice. PDF Expert 3 kept the perpetual licence for the Mac, but to use it on the iPhone/iPad subscription is the only option. I just bought the iPad, and this is so annoying.
